“And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another. And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.” 2 John verses 5-6
The letter of 2 John is a follow up to 1 John. It is very short but does contain some key components. This week looking at verses 5 and 6 John (the author of the letter) wants to focus on loving one another. In 1 John he highlights this as important in the life of a follower of Jesus and he does so again here. He writes to the church (universal) in saying that as believers we are to love one another. This is so critical. We need community. We need the fellowship of believers. And if we are to show that we love God, we have to love one another. It is also important that we follow what Jesus says for us to do. If we say we are followers of Jesus then we are to listen and do what He says. Love and obey. Two simple things yet they are so crucial in the life of believers.
