Sunday Devotional: Matthew 10:40-42

“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.  The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.  And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”  Matthew 10:40-42

Jesus is speaking to the disciples and giving instructions for them.  This is the last things he said to them before sending them out to share.  He reminds them that they are going in Jesus’ name and that when they are received by the people that they are receiving Jesus because the disciples are ambassadors of Jesus and the Father.  Those of us who are followers of Jesus, we are ambassadors of Jesus.  When we go out and share with others, we should be encouraged.  When people receive us, they receive Jesus.  We are not going out alone.  And it’s not on us whether people receive the Gospel, it’s on them because they choose to either receive or reject.
