Sunday Devotional: Deuteronomy 11:11-12

“But the land that you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water by the rain from heaven, a land that the Lord your God cares for. The eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.” (Deuteronomy 11:11-12)

As we begin the start of a new year, let us remember that we are not alone as we journey into it.  God is with us and He is to lead us into this new year.

In the verses above, Moses is speaking to the Israelites just before they were to go into the promised land.  He reminds them of several things.  First, they were going into a land that had “hills and valleys”.  Such as in our own lives, there are hills and valleys that we will encounter.  We should expect this and be ready as we journey through.  Second, God is with us.  Moses tells the people that God cares for the land in which they are entering as well as God keeps watch over the land.  God cares for us as well and He keeps watch over us.  He does this “from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.”

So as we enter into this new year, let us trust in the Lord.  Let us be thankful for His provisions.  And let us hold onto Him through the hills and valleys that come in 2016.
