Thoughts on the New “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” Trailer

The first trailer dropped at San Diego Comic Con for the next Godzilla film: Godzilla: King of the Monsters.  This is the direct sequel to the 2014 film and in the “monsterverse” along with Kong: Skull Island.  After having just watched the trailer, here’s some of my initial thoughts:

*They are throwing out all the big guns.  Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah.  If you’re going to have a battle royale of kaiju, this is the crew (unless MechaGodzilla is in wait).  Just the glimpses of Mothra and King Ghidorah look pretty sweet.  Considering there hasn’t ever been an American version of those, I’m super interested to see how they turn out.

*Millie Bobby Brown’s character in the trailer reminds me of Miki Saegusa, a character from the Heisei Godzilla films of the late 80s/early 90s.  I’m curious if that will actually be the case and she can communicate via a psychic link to the monsters like Miki did.

*It’s too bad that Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson aren’t back but at least they brought back Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins (two actors that I enjoy a lot).

*For a first trailer, there is A LOT of action but like I said before besides Godzilla, we don’t see a lot of the other kaiju, which is good.  It gets everyone hyped but still leaves a lot to the imagination.

Overall, I really enjoyed this trailer.  I’m hyped for this film to drop next year.
