Thursday Quote Day: Matthew Henry

This week’s “Thursday Quote Day” features a quote from minister and author Matthew Henry:

“When I cannot feel the faith of assurance, I live by the fact of God’s faithfulness.” (Matthew Henry)

Sunday Devotional: Psalm 23

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
     He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.” (Psalm 23)

This chapter of Psalms is one of the most well known chapters in all of the Bible.  It is also one of the most comforting chapters.  That assurance that God watches over us like a shepherd.  That He is there to lead us through the hills and the valleys of life.  We have that assurance that He is there to comfort us when we need comforting.

We can trust that He is there for us, that He wants what best for us if we follow Him.  We can have the joy in knowing Him and dwelling and abiding in Him.  This week, let us remember and dwell on that.  Sometimes it’s good to go back and reread Scripture such as Psalm 23.  It gives us that reassurance that He is watching over us, that He is caring about us and that He loves us.  Let us share that news with ourselves and with others.
