Last night the second trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped. It dropped with only a few months before the film debuts in December and having watched it several times and had some time to think about it. Here are some of my thoughts…
1.) I mentioned after watching the first trailer that the film has an “Empire” feel. This one really cements that Granted that’s to be expected with the training of Rey, the fight with AT-AT 2.0 (I know they have a name but can’t think of it off the top of the head) and what appears to be Kylo sort of asking Rey to join him ala Vader to Luke at end of Empire.
2.) Showing Finn in battle with Phasma is stark contrast to the first trailer which had him in a stasis pod which is good.
3.) I still don’t know what to think about Luke. I’m less concerned with how they’ll treat Luke after this trailer but there is still that concern. I guess part of it is coming in with the “Legends” stories still in my head of how they treated Luke post Return of the Jedi and how it appears he’s treated in the Disneymovieverse.
4). There were a few shots that looked like Rey had a white lightsaber…which I think would be good because that means she built her own lightsaber. I could be wrong and she still has Anakin/Luke’s old blue lightsaber and the lighting was such to make the blade color seem white in some shots. If she is to become a Jedi then she should build her own lightsaber. But then I guess the argument is to be made in the film is she going to be a Jedi or is the order done now.
Overall this trailer sold me more on the film than the first trailer. I’m still a little wary but we’ll see come December how things go.
Today the first trailer for Episode 8 in the Star Wars Trilogy The Last Jedi released. It was a long time waiting for a trailer compared to Episode 7 The Force Awakens. Since this is a first trailer this is just a glimpse into what’s in store but I do have some thoughts:
1.) There is an “Empire” feel to this trailer. It feels like Rey will have her “Dagobah” time with Luke. From the training to the “what do you see”? I do hope at some point if it’s this film or Episode IX that she builds her own lightsaber. Every one else in the saga has built their own lightsaber, it would make sense and only be right that she constructs a new lightsaber just for her.
2.) There looks like there will be some sweet space battles. That was one thing lacking in The Force Awakens was great space battles. Hopefully that will be remedied in this film.
3.) Finn in stasis (or whatever that was) reminded me of Han in carbonite freeze. I wonder how much of Finn in this film will be still unconscious/recovering and how much will be him participating.
4.) I’m guessing there will be more Poe which hopefully will be connected to the space battles. More time with him and Black Squadron will be a definite plus.
5.) The “Jedi to end” line is the one that has me scratching my head and partly concerned with the track of the film (and Episode IX). Granted that’s what the director Rian Johnson wants is to leave it so vague like that. What I hope is that it doesn’t actually mean the end of the Jedi. I think that would be a mistake and would be wrong. In a way if that happened, the Emperor would have succeeded. He wanted to get rid of all the Jedi and if Luke sees to its end then what the Emperor wanted to happen would’ve happened. Maybe it’s a moment of crisis and with Rey the Order is restored. I don’t know. Out of all the things in the trailer that concerns me.
There are a lot of feelings. I think the main one (and I tweeted a GIF of it) was “What?” There are a lot of “what?” moments. To be honest given how things are I’m very excited but I’m also a little anxious. It feels like trusting someone to handle a very priceless artifact and seeing them carry it to you. You’re excited to get it but at the same time worried they might get careless and drop it. The verdict will come in December.
This week, the first trailer for the new film Creed released on line. The film stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone.
Jordan plays Adonis Johnson Creed, the son of Apollo Creed. For those that may not remember, Apollo Creed was the opponent of Rocky Balboa in the first two Rocky films as well as trainer in Rocky III. Apollo was killed in Rocky IV by Ivan Drago in an exhibition fight. So Adonis doesn’t grow up with his father around. This film is his story. Here is the trailer and my thoughts will be on the other side
By the trailer alone, you wouldn’t necessarily know it is a spinoff of the Rocky films. Yes, Sly Stallone is in it playing Rocky Balboa. But he’s not the center of the picture, in fact he’s taking on the role more of Mick or even Apollo (the Rocky III version) as a mentor/father figure. This is Adonis’ story. It definitely has the feel of the first Rocky film.
It also has the feel of a story about a young man who is trying to find himself. He has the legacy with the name Creed with his father being the heavyweight champ. But he also has no connection to his father. He never knew him. He says in the trailer “Every punch I’ve thrown has been on my own. No one ever showed me how to do this.”
While we barely see who Adonis’ opponent will be in the main event, we do know that he will fight not just that opponent but the weight of the name Creed. Will he live up to the name Creed? Will he carry on that legacy in the boxing ring?
I’m a fan of the Rocky series so when I heard about this film I was excited. But after seeing the trailer, I’m excited just the see the film on its own. There are a lot of good films that are coming out towards the end of the year and Creed is right up near the top of the list.
Today was the beginning of Star Wars Celebration, the Star Wars convention that brings people around the world together for all things Star Wars. As part of the kickoff to the weekend, they premiered the new trailer for the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After just watching it, here are some quick thoughts:
1) There was more depth to the trailer (which was to be expected). The initial shot of the crashed X-Wing which then revealed the crashed Star Destroyer was pretty epic way to start it off.
2) Love the voiceover by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. This trailer tied a little more into the original cast but still left a lot in mystery. There’s a shot of Luke hooded (with his robotic hand no longer covered) with R2 & later handing someone a lightsaber. And at the end of the trailer there’s the awesome shot of Han Solo & Chewbacca with Han saying “We’re home.” Where is home?
3) Lots of action with the new cast. It’s safe to say that John Boyega, Daisy Ridley & Oscar Isaac are going to have huge roles in this film and they look like they’ll be great in carrying the film.
I’m so looking forward to December.
Yesterday, a new trailer released for the Peanuts movie that comes out this November. This trailer features the epic encounter between the two ongoing adversaries Snoopy and the Red Baron. Check it out:
The long awaited teaser trailer for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just been released online and will debut in theaters today as well. Just some quick thoughts after just seeing it…
1) “This is awesome”. That was my thoughts over and over again after just one viewing. Even with just a teaser trailer, there was a lot of cool stuff in there. I loved the X-Wings flying over the water and seeing the Millennium Falcon in a fight with some TIE fighters. I loved the cool voiceover for the trailer. It was awesome.
2) It felt like the original trilogy. Like I’ve said before, I don’t have anything against the prequel trilogy. I just like the original trilogy better. Those 88 seconds felt like the original trilogy. And to me that’s a good thing.
3) Finally, simply put. I can’t wait for next December.
Everyone that knows me knows how I’m a huge fan of the Peanuts comic strip/cartoons. I enjoy reading and watching Charlie Brown, Snoopy and all the Peanuts gang. So when I heard that there was going to be a new animated movie in 2015, I was super excited. Today a teaser trailer for the film was released. Check it out:
